BEAVERCREEK -- Lorie Roach found an egg in her yard Thursdayafternoon that weighs about 4.5 ounces (128 grams) and measures 7inches around.
"I was just speechless when I saw it. I've just not seen anythinglike that before," said Roach, a Beavercreek City School Districtbus driver. She and her husband, Chuck, have 53 chickens at theirhome on Fairgrounds Road.
"I don't even know which chicken it is, but that's a good thingbecause that means she's not sick or anything. She's not introuble," she added. Roach said there are 30 hens and three roostersin one area. "When I found it, it was still fairly warm. I'm notsure, but with three other roosters running around with this batchof chickens, it's bound to be fertile."
She documented the orb with a video and pictures next to astandard egg carton and on a scale.
"I just went out and saw it laying there."
Roach said she's going to try to incubate the egg and that she'llknow in a week or so if it is fertile: "It's funny. I can't help butcall it Baby Huey."
If it does hatch, it would be appropriately the Thursday beforeEaster. Roach said she's had chickens for a couple of years and thatthey sell the eggs to coworkers and friends.
April 1 is her birthday so she gets to pull jokes. Roach swearsthe egg is not an April Fool's Day hoax or eggs-ageration where theyolks on everyone else.
An Internet search shows Roach's egg isn't the world's biggest --a CNN story from Arkansas last month said two topped 5 ounces.
